Created to be a teacher
I started college and quit college 4 times before I stayed the course. I graduated with my teaching degree at the age of 30 with two children ages 6 and 9, euphoric to begin the season filled with doing what I was born to do for the next 27 years. I taught grades 3-8 all subjects to include tap dance, creative writing and Gifted and Talented. To have a career that encouraged learners and developed creativity was beyond measure.
How do I rely on God
A lot of life happened over the span of ten years that slayed me, that grew my faith and that taught me to fully rely on God. I was a victim, a martyr, a recuser, an enabler, a rule following people pleaser, and a strong willed bull. I made poor choices. I made good choices. I repented. I lived in regret and shame. I came through, because I came to my knees in front of God.
From knowing about God to knowing God
From these years, writing began. From pain, healing began. From knowing about God, to knowing God began.
Reconnect to Jesus
I worked the past ten years in Youth ministry and published a Youth devotional, an adult devotional, a children’s book and began a small business called I write You write. Birthed from a blog series that featured writing prompts, tips and writing and writing from photos, I began. More and more, the focus began to shift from helping people write to helping people live the abundant life. So many of us need healing. So many of us need to reconnect with Jesus. So many of us need to know God.
Living closer to God
Now, I bring you my faith journey in all its twists and turns with the hope that you will connect with the story, that you will see the difference your God journey makes in your life and that you will become the masterpiece that God made you to be as you grow your faith.
Who I am Not
The first time I experienced the unconditional love of God, I was overwhelmed—not with gratitude, but with shame and guilt. My instinct was to run and hide, and I found myself grappling with a series of questions:
How could God love me so much?
What do I need to do to earn that kind of love?
When is the repayment due? I’m sure there must be repayment.
Doesn’t everyone expect something in return for love?
It took me years to understand that God’s economy is not like that of humans. For a long time, I struggled with believing in God’s grace, trying to earn His forgiveness. I served on every committee, ran every ministry, and attended every church function—like a worker bee. This was a lesson in futility. I cannot earn a gift that is freely given.
Eventually, I allowed God to help me and heal my wounds and dysfunctions. I embraced His love and became His child. I now seek His help with problems of all sizes, from minor to major. He delivers and helps me find serenity in the midst of a chaotic world. I want this life for you too!
This is the focus of my writing and the foundation of my weekly messages. Here is where I live in the deep peace of Christ. The power of the Holy Spirit guides me with wisdom and discernment. I do not claim to be an expert.
I am a willing student, sharing the message of love, hope, and grace with as many people as I can for as long as I can.
I am a child of God. And so are you.
Welcome to the kingdom!
