I’m a child of God helping you find hope in a confusing world
When life hits you hard, it is difficult to keep your focus on the positive. When I was struggling with life, I found myself listening to Christian Radio. The songs seemed written just for me. I heard two messages over and over that have stayed with me.
God is in control. When I can embrace this, I feel God telling me to let go of everything and let him provide what I need. Easy for me to say; but hard for me to do. Did I tell you that I am recovering a control freak?
Trust in the Lord…
with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
This scripture has become an anchor for me. I share it with you and invite you to read it every day for a week.
These two concepts inspired me to write my first book Touching the Heart of God. I knew the title before I knew the content because that is how I approached my faith. I didn’t go deep or put much effort. I was overcome by fear. I could touch. That was all I could do.

I wrote short poems…
in free verse, to help me name what I was feeling. I decided to connect these to scripture and offer to-the-point prayers. After about a year, I had 45 different topics. I was 45 years old. I knew God was in control. I knew what I wrote would help people just like me, just like you who are searching for answers but have no words to offer, no way to explain, no prayer handy to lift up to God.

I Always Wanted to be a Writer
Meet seventh-grade Cindy. She was an undercover poet. Her English teacher introduced the class to poems of all kinds, from haiku to limerick to sonnets to free verse. Poetry filled her soul.
I dabbled at writing but was certain I would need a real job. Writing could be a hobby.
Fast forward to my teaching career, where I taught fourth graders a wonderful methodology called Writing Workshop by Lucy Calkins. I composed every day with my students. The writer in me can back to life with a vengeance. The power of the written word to convey what a writer means cannot be measured.
I applied to the Low Country Writing Project and was accepted. For the first time, I received training on the writing process and the pathway to publication. I published articles on various topics in local publications. I could call myself a published author.
Shortly thereafter, I was inspired to write my first book in the Heart of God series. I was not motivated to learn how to implement marketing skills, so after making enough profit to purchase my first computer, things fizzled out.
Now, in my retirement, I am happily writing what I want to write as well as designing courses, speaking, and offering workshops. I have published my first fiction children’s book and have plans to launch my first adult fiction in 2025.
I truly embrace my mantra. Your words matter. You matter.
