Restoring Your Soul

I love Psalm 23. I read this every day as part of my morning prayers. King David was a poet of the highest level as he chose his metaphors with clarity and deep meaning. 

A Psalm of David.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

   He makes me lie down in green pastures;

He leads me beside still waters.

He restores my soul;

   He leads me in paths of righteousness

for His name’s sake.

Even though I walk

through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil;

for You are with me;

Your rod and Your staff,

they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies;

You anoint my head with oil;

my cup runs over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

forever.

Church is a place where your soul is restored. 

You can expect to worship God free from distractions.

You can rest in the presence of others who are also worshiping God.

You can feel the good shepherd’s presence.

You can pray.

You can praise.

You can confess.

You can be healed.

You can be forgiven.

You can forgive.

You can listen.

You can speak a word of encouragement and support.

You can absorb.

You can unplug.

You can be your true self.

You can learn.

You can experience the deep peace of Christ as he restores your soul.

Where in the chaos of this world can you find what you need to grow closer to God? How can you recharge and be ready to overcome adversity if you are not getting your soul restored each and every week? 

Give church another chance. Let go of what you think church should be and seek a new and fresh restoration for your soul. Ask God to guide you to a church that is a good fit for where you are in your life and where you wish to go. Go more than once. Open your heart to allow soul restoration and renewal by the love of God with the people of God.
